The Interposing Christ!

While I was listening to a Spurgeon sermon this morning, as he was making reference to the interposing work of Christ, I began to think of how God might demonstrate this work to us in the heavens through total solar eclipses.

God has created the earth, moon and sun and placed them in such a way that when the moon and sun come in conjunction, forming a total solar eclipse, the moon perfectly covers the sun... throwing the earth into shadow.

Isn't this what the Lord has done for us?

The fierceness of God's wrath which burns against us like the hot noon day sun is blocked out by the only One who can step in its path and completely shield us from it - Jesus Christ. Casting his shadow of salvation over us, Christ protects us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. By drawing the heat of God's wrath upon himself Christ leaves us in the cool shade of peace, with no fear of retribution, as we stare at the corona of God's righteous judgement which should have been poured out on us! And why wont he pour out his wrath on us? Because He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

Christ willingly poured out his life for His bride, his blood in exchange for our redemption. All those who are his will join him at the wedding feast and dwell with him for all eternity!

Maybe, just maybe, the diamond ring of the solar eclipse is a reminder to his bride that we will be His forever!
